Community Service
Students at St. John the Evangelist School understand that part of our mission here at school is to give back to the community and to do for others. Every month we sponsor “dress down days” where students dress down (out of uniform) for a $1.00 donation and donate to a worthy cause such as Breast Cancer Awareness, Pancreatic Cancer, the Patriot Ledger Lend a Hand Program, Globe Santa, Juvenile Diabetes, the Sisters of St. Joseph, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and others.

We also have every child in every grade participate in a class community service project.

The first grade children collect supplies for the Chernobyl children who come from Russia during the summer months.

The second grade students help to provide supplies for the Canton Food Pantry and stock the shelves every Monday.

The third graders string rosary beads for the Father Peyton Center at Stonehill College every Tuesday.

The fourth grade students bring Meals on Wheels to senior citizens and parishioners every Tuesday.

The fifth grade children visit the Hellenic Nursing Home and often play Bingo with the residents.

The sixth graders coordinate Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the school and raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The seventh grade class spends their time making, serving and cleaning up lunch for the clients at Rosie’s Place, the homeless shelter for women in Boston.

The eighth grade students publicize and participate in a wheelchair basketball game against students at the MA Hospital School and all proceeds go to the MA Hospital School.

We are very proud of our students for getting involved in community service at such a young age and following what Jesus said “What you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.”
